Loxley Valley Community Farm

Sharing the work, the produce and the experience

How to join

How does it work?

It is a community project based in Loxley, Sheffield. We have approx. 4 acres of land on which we keep animals (pigs, sheep, poultry & bees) and grow fruit and veg.

We work the land communally and share the produce so although nobody has their own plot, everyone can have a say in what we do on the site as a whole.

We have workdays twice a month and social events both on and off the farm.

Where are we?

Our farm address is Rodney Hill, Loxley, Sheffield, S6 6SG.
You can find us next door to the Rodney Hill allotments.

Why join?

We are a friendly and social group, most of us had no farming or growing experience when we started and we are keen to share what we’ve learned.

It's educational for children and adults alike, get away from modern screen based life and do something useful outdoors.

Think you might like an allotment but the waiting time is too long? This is a great alternative to an allotment, responsibility is shared and the committment required is more flexible.

Join us as either a volunteer or become a full member.

How much time do I need to commit?

It’s entirely up to you! If you want to become a member then we ask for a minimum commitment of 1 workday a month and 1 feed a week (once you feel happy that you know what you are doing).

We welcome volunteers on our workdays, simply turn up at approx 10:30 (kettle should be boiled by then), find out what we do what tasks you can help with and get stuck in. Volunteers need commit no more than the time to come and see what we're all about.

How much does it cost?

It depends on what you want to get out of the project! Members pay a monthly membership fee of £10 to cover running costs and then purchase the produce they want at cost price.

Volunteering is of course free and volunteers get first offer of any surplus produce.

How to join or volunteer

Your first step should be to simply visit us on the farm have a look around and join in, we'll be there every 1st Saturday and 3rd Sunday of every month.

Next workday:

10:30am is a good time to arrive, we usually have tea, biscuits and go through the task list for the day.

If after you've volunteered a couple of times we'll be happy to discuss membership with you, or carry on volunteering for as long as you wish.
